Make a Bald Statement in Support of Families with Pediatric Cancer

Boston, MA (PRWEB) April 28, 2010 -- On Saturday, June 12, 2010, One Mission will make a "bald statement" for pediatric cancer, encouraging individuals to shave their heads in honor and support of children and families fighting pediatric cancer.

The One Mission Kid's Cancer Buzz-Off will take place on Saturday, June 12, from 9am-12pm at the Best Western, Longwood Medical, Boston. All proceeds will benefit Children's Hospital Boston and the critical services that help children and their families in the fight against cancer.

To get involved in the Kid's Cancer Buzz-Off, individuals can register online at www.onemission.org. Individuals are encouraged to raise a minimum of $1000 to participate, helping to drive the fundraising efforts by creating their own fundraising page and setting personal goals.

The lives of patients, parents, and siblings are dramatically changed when a child is diagnosed with cancer. Children undergo long and painful treatments outside of the comforts of home. For the families, the need for emotional and financial support becomes imperative as they spend months inside the hospital coping with the stress and concern of this terrible disease.

In the United States, cancer is the #1 disease-related cause of death in children. One in every 330 Americans will develop cancer by the age of 20 while the causes remain unknown and unpreventable. Thanks to foundations like One Mission, funding has provided more research, advanced treatments, and compassionate care, so that nearly 80% of pediatric cancer patients are long-term survivors.

One Mission raises funds that directly benefit the pediatric cancer patients and their families covering three primary areas: patient & family support services, cutting-edge cancer research, and the extraordinary needs programs. These grants are allocated to leading facilities and organizations such as, Children's Hospital Boston, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and the Jimmy Fund. About One Mission

One Mission was founded by Ashley and Ari Haseotes who experienced the immense challenges of pediatric cancer when their seven-month-year-old son was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. Like most families suffering with pediatric cancer, the Haseotes's moved into the Hospital while their child underwent treatment for over six months. This experience inspired One Mission, to make those days less physically, financially, and emotionally straining for both child and family.
